I love Trader Joe’s, but I hate schlepping to Reston to get there (using the IRS 50 cents/mile chargeback rate, that’s a $12 round trip!)
Rumors have been percolating that there will be a new one soon in Leesburg, so I decided to dig a little. There was nothing about a Loudoun store on the TJ website, so I called the Reston store.
Me: Hi, I’ve heard a rumor that Trader Joe’s is coming to Leesburg. Is this true?
TJ: Yes, it’s true. That is a rumor.
The sarcastic but friendly TJ phone answerer said there’s a lot of demand for a Trader Joe’s in Loudoun, and he hopes/expects that there will be one within the next five years. It didn’t sound like anything would materialize in the next year or two. For now, the only new Trader Joe’s in Virginia are coming to Richmond and Lake Manassas.
Anyone else have better dirt than I kicked up?

There’s been an e-mail circulating through the area asking people to put in a suggestion for a store at the planned Belmont Green shopping center. I know I’ve gotten the e-mail several times, so it is certainly making the rounds. Maybe the company will listen? I honestly don’t know how far along that shopping center is in the planning stages, though.
